                  Humanity? WTF Are We Really?

A Rant

© C. S. Roberts, 7/18.2026

Our world is a beautiful and cruel place. Beautifully cruel and cruelly beautiful. Every entity must struggle against something in order to survive. In doing so, each creature learns something to use next go-round, if they survive the one they are currently in. The more “advanced” the creature, the more advanced and thought provoking the challenge.

People are at the apex of this situation. Because we can and do plan, calculate, overthink, plot, figure, manipulate, plan and desire this or that outcome, we can create some really convoluted messes for ourselves. And then wonder how we got into them.

As we grind on the situation we come up with countless reasons for whatever our current dilemma is. Then we try to decide how we should try or not to fix the situation OR, we look for who else could be at fault. We often allow avarice and ego to overcome discernment and empathy, not to mention good sense to understand that we created the situation in the first place.

What we as a species seem to fail to see is that there is abundance all around if we would stop manipulating the Earth’s resources to serve our needs above those around us.  And, to make things worse, we can’t seem to share resources among ourselves. The Haves seem to think the Have Nots are in possession of as much as they are, we just don’t want to give it to those who see themselves as more deserving.

From this writer’s point of view, it seems that all forms of life have an inherent drive to dominate all they can. While I understand the imperative to survive, this leaves me wondering why everything (not just humanity) is so intent on conquering everything around it. What in life makes (name the creature) so sure that it holds agency over all other life.

I have had people tell me that God, or something like Him/Her/It said we hold dominion over so-called lesser creatures, but I don’t buy that. Who/What decides who/what is greater and who is lesser? Watching nature shows I am very aware that there is some sort of hierarchy within every living society. ALL of them plant, animal, insect, maybe even mineral. Why is that I wonder. Perhaps for some semblance of order? What’s it all for? Is it just instinctual programing? I ask what is the point of the exercise other than to cause conflict. Not to be pedantic here I truly want to understand this.

I’ve been told time and time again that people are supposed to learn, change and evolve. But do we really? And what about the rest of life here on this blue marble? Is my husband right in his assertion that “life has no meaning. We are merely organic entities with the sad misfortune of having evolved to the point of being able to contemplate our own existence.

In my opinion, it seems to me that if we truly have evolved to the point of being able to contemplate our own existence, and had learned from our past, we would be doing much better than we currently are.

Thank you for listening/reading.

All the best to your highest good and best outcome,

Don’t Let Life Discourage You

“Don’t let life discourage you;

Everyone who got where he is has had to begin where he was.

(Richard L. Evans)

Chances are one day you decided to change some things in your life. You were where you were and somehow it just didn’t quite feel right, it didn’t fit. It may have been any one of a number of things, a notion that feels wrong now, an old piece of knowledge that you have just found out was incorrect information or, possibly you have found that a way of thinking about some issue or group now seems unworthy of you. Whatever made you wake up and realize that self-improvement was in order is a decision to be applauded.

Changing anything requires you to start somewhere. I suggest that wherever you find yourself is the perfect place for you to begin. The simple fact that you have come to this conclusion is an awesome step for you, for everyone trying to make their lives better.

Start with baby steps, they get better results and as you see progress, you will be encouraged to keep going. Self-improvement is always time invested in your most valuable asset, you. Like the instructions when you are on a plane to put the oxygen mask on yourself before helping the person next to you; if you are not in a healthy, whole, balanced place you can’t help anyone else. Even if you can respect someone for being a mess because you’re a mess too, you don’t have to stay that way. Learn to respect yourself for the right reasons and watch your mess straighten out.

Some of your baby steps might be to think of all the things you feel are important to you. Then ask yourself if they are worthy of you? Do they raise your vibrations? Do they move you to grow? Would they be precious to you if they were suddenly gone? If so then enjoy, if not then let them go because when you change how and what you think about, how and what you think about changes.

To get to the good things in life, not only do you need to make changes in the way you think and perceive things, you have to let your walls down and take the chance that you might get hurt. This is better than feeling nothing and, as you grow toward your goals of wholeness and betterment, the absence of walls will allow your feelings to become those of joy that all of us want to achieve.

Remember that life, especially a conscious, aware and discerning one doesn’t just happen, it requires your participation so participate with joy, empathy and balance of body, mind and spirit. Know too as you work that you are the bridge between where you are now and where you want to be. Remember too, that the only person who can take you there is you. To your highest good and best outcome Chessie
