WHEN YOU CHANGE WHAT YOU THINK ABOUT

WHEN YOU CHANGE WHAT YOU THINK ABOUT

        WHAT YOU THINK ABOUT CHANGES
© Chessie Roberts 2010, all rights reserved

Do you find yourself having conversations with your ‘self’ about what you should have done or said in any given circumstance? How about what you think SHOULD have happened or how you SHOULD have reacted to fill in the blank?

When we talk to ourselves, we call it thinking but what we are really doing is actually talking to “self” about something that is bothering us. It can be anything, a disturbing incident, an angry encounter, a close call. You notice that I didn’t list anything ‘good’ here. That is because, as people, we don’t usually rehash the good, just the bad.

The worse the trauma, the more we go through it in our heads later. We grind on it, rewriting the scenario over and over again. Most of the time, within our rewrite, we come out the clever hero, besting our antagonist and making them feel as bad as we did in the original incident.

The reason for this is that’s how we handled this type of thing when we were children. A little person will tell you the same tale of trauma until you feel that you can’t stand to hear it again but, that is how they ‘talk themselves down’.

As we mature, we learn to keep most of these things to ourselves, but they do have a tendency to pop out somewhere else if we are not vigilant. One of the ways; as we mature into more positive people, we can handle this process is to change what we are thinking about. We do this by learning proper self-talk. I.e. writing a better script in our heads.

The way to start the re-write is to go for the positive in all of your daily encounters. Look at whatever is going on (in ANY situation) and ask yourself, “What makes this situation positive?” (I keep that sign hanging right by my computer so that I don’t forget). Next, ask yourself “What are my assets?” These two questions will change the focus of your thoughts to a more positive slant.

The other thing that you can do to get your thoughts moving in a positive direction is to keep a journal with you at all times (just until you get used to thinking this way). Every time you come up with a less than desirable thought, write it down. If you can change it to a positive statement at the time, go, ahead and do it, if not, wait until you have some quiet time and refer back to your notes. Then rewrite the statement in the proper positive language.

EXAMPLE: “That stupid jerk nearly ran me off the road! I wonder where he got his driver’s license, Hasbro.” CORRECTION: “I am so glad he missed me, I hope he gets where he is going safely.”

It might sound a bit corny, but it really does work. As you begin to change your inner vocabulary, your thoughts will turn toward a more positive flow. This flow will, in turn, change what occupies your mind. As that focus changes you will find that your vibrations rise and, consequently, your life will flow better as well because, when you change what you think about, what you think about changes.

HOW DO I SLOW DOWN TO LET MY FRIENDS CATCH UP?

HOW DO I SLOW DOWN TO LET MY FRIENDS

                                   CATCH UP?

One of the responses that I received to my invitation to ask topic questions was “How do I slow down so that my friends and family can catch up with my growth?”

The short answer is that you don’t. Everyone understands and grows at their own rate. I am sure you have heard the saying that “when the student is ready the teacher will appear”. Your friends and loved ones may have their “Ah-ha” moments at different times than you do. That is OK. You must be yourself and they must be themselves. This is one of those things over which you have no control and that is OK as well.

If you attempt to stunt your growth to accommodate someone else’s schedule, you will find quickly that it feels uncomfortable for you. You may find that you are frustrated, angry or there may be some pain involved. All of these fear-based feelings occur because you are denying yourself who and what you are becoming. Learning is why you are on this path in the first place, right?

Now if you choose to keep this (these people) person in your life, focus on what you love about them rather than what you don’t. If you focus on the negatives and differences, you will find that this is where your discomfort starts.

Focusing on what you love about them will allow your vibrations to continue to rise and spontaneously, theirs will too. Now I’m not telling you to grab their hand and haul them up there with you, the love and the Universe will take care of all of that. If you try, you will be right back at the beginning of the question.

See your growth as an opportunity to share your knowledge and opinions with others while allowing them to share their knowledge and opinions with you. Their opinions and knowledge may be different, but you can still learn from them if you choose to allow yourself to listen.

If your friends are uncomfortable around you then that is their issue, not yours. Your issue is your growth. So…give yourself, your friends and loved one’s space and the freedom to just Be. You will see that it all works out just as it is meant to in the end. It is OK to outgrow people and have them out grow you, but by the same process, you will be growing up toward others, that is how we learn and become what we are to become.

Invation to all followers of Evolution of Self; Journey into Body,Mind,Spirit Balance

                               TOPICS PLEASE

Dear Readers (if you will permit me to borrow the phrase), I have been talking to you about all sorts of topics in these blogs. I thought that you may have topics you would like to see covered. Here is your chance to tell me what you want to read about.

Some of you are new to Evolution of Self; Journey into Body, Mind, Spirit Balance so here is a brief overview. This is a program that helps anyone who wishes to participate to regain their balance in these three areas. I created it in an effort to heal myself and found that others wanted to know and understand what I had done.

The program covers

1) Your birthright; the information with you were born and what became of it.

2) Centering which is about pulling yourself together to clear an inner pathway for your energy to travel.

3) Grounding yourself to the Earth that is your energetic source.

4) How to create a calm mindset to help you stay focused and less stressed.

5) The proper way to speak to yourself without judgment or criticism.

6) How to visualize what you truly want.

7-13) How to tap into each internal energy center and make it more efficient for you.

Let me know what you would like to read more about and I will address each topic in order of its demand. You may email me at chessrob05@gmail.com, post a message or go to the discussions tab on Facebook or comment at this blog site. I check all of them regularly. Bright Blessings, Chessie

Why Make A Resolution?

                    Why Make A Resolution?
© Chessie Roberts 2010, EOS Used by permission

“Watch your thoughts, for they become words. Watch your words, for they become actions. Watch your actions, for they become habits. Watch your habits, for they become character. Watch your character, for it becomes your destiny.” - Tom Krause

A resolution is usually made in the heat of the moment without much thought. It is usually made as a lofty proclamation without expectation of achievement. Because of these circumstances, they are doomed to fail, and…they do; leaving the maker with a sense of failure or a “see, I told you so” mind set.

I used to be one of those people until I decided just never make resolutions again. Guess what? I was able to keep that one. In reality a resolution is just another way to set a goal for yourself. They should be made the same way we set any other goal. We aren’t usually taught how to do that so here are some guide lines.
1) Goals are good to have because they let us see that we are progressing in the direction we feel we want to go.
2) They give us a time frame in which to work so we know when to push or hold back.
3) Set something for yourself that you truly believe you can accomplish. Be kind to you and start gently if you are new at this.
4) Set a realistic time frame, remember; Rome wasn’t built in a day.
5) Review your desired outcome to see just what the baby steps are that will get you the desired outcome.
a) Are they easier to reach?
b) Will the time frame for each step be more acceptable to you?
c) Will your reward for the achievement of each step help you move on to the next one?

Baby step goals are usually the best way to go because you don't get discouraged and quit. If you shoot straight for the whole thing at once, chances are you will either not recognize it when you get there or stop just before success.

You will find that by following these few steps toward creating something truly worthwhile to you, you will start your year out with a sense of accomplishment that will set the tone for a purposeful and prosperous year. Happy 2010 everyone.
